Early Years
At Little Mead Primary Academy, we believe that exceptional Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision is built upon:
- A Well-Crafted, Ambitious Curriculum: Our curriculum is meticulously planned and sequentially structured to foster children’s conceptual growth over time, ensuring a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 (KS1).
- Dynamic Pedagogy: We utilise a diverse array of teaching methods. Children learn through play, observe adult role models, watch their peers, and participate in both guided learning and direct instruction. As children advance in EYFS, they require more structured learning to achieve the Good Level of Development (GLD).
- Comprehensive Assessment: Both formative and summative assessments are strategically employed to shape each child's educational journey, ensuring that every child meets their full potential and succeeds.
- Thoughtfully Designed Environment: Our learning spaces are carefully planned to provide high-quality, engaging environments that cater to the varied needs of all children.
- Expert Educators: Our team of skilled adults brings a deep understanding of child development and individual student needs, effectively engaging, challenging, and supporting children in their educational pursuits.
Our curriculum encompasses everything we teach, both inside and outside the classroom. It outlines the educational journey each child embarks upon from the moment they join us.
Our curriculum is both challenging and forward-thinking, developed in alignment with the EYFS Framework. It is segmented using the ‘Development Matters’ documentation and seamlessly connects with the knowledge and skills that students will continue to build upon in KS1 and KS2.
Children engage with all the Prime and Specific areas of learning through a carefully balanced blend of whole-class, group, and individual learning experiences. This approach aligns with our whole-school philosophy of 'Teaching for Mastery through Explicit Instruction'.
