Curriculum
Welcome to our curriculum page!
At Little Mead, our curriculum is underpinned by our school Vision and Values and is ‘On T.R.A.C.K.’ to provide the young learners at Little Mead with an education which nurtures and inspires.
Teamwork – Our curriculum has been designed through a collaborative process. This includes using the knowledge and expertise of curriculum specialists in their respective fields, working groups across our Trust and ongoing adaptations and adjustments supported by subject leads, our SENCO, planning teams and, of course, the children and school community.
Respect – Our curriculum has been created with our diverse school community in mind. Through choice of texts, content taught and enrichment opportunities, we have created a curriculum which is respectful of all the needs and backgrounds of our young learners. Where necessary, our curriculum is adapted and scaffolded to respect the needs of individuals within each cohort.
Aspiration – We strongly believe that the curriculum at Little Mead is highly aspirational for the young people in our care. Each subject has a curriculum which is carefully put together to give students a rich and ambitious experience within that content area. It progresses year on year and works towards helping to develop young people who have rich knowledge, are skilled across the subject disciplines and have high expectations of themselves and each other.
Courage – Taking risks and being prepared to fail is a vital element of any aspirational curriculum and both staff and students are encouraged to have courage to try new things, challenge themselves and have their voice heard. Staff have the courage to, when required, adapt and innovate on the existing curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of all our pupils.
Kindness – Staff work tirelessly to create a supportive, caring and safe environment for children to learn and this permeates through every session at Little Mead. Strong relationships within each class and year group ensure that staff deliver lessons through a supportive lens and children partake in sessions with an expectation that they are kind to themselves and others. The high expectations set by teachers, the carefully chosen content and the support and scaffolds provided for those who need it ensure the curriculum is always delivered with kindness.
Across the curriculum, our subject leads have produced a subject profile to give a more detailed insight into what their subject looks like at Little Mead. Please follow the links provided to find out more.
